Dreams are not the ones, that you see while asleep,
Dreams are those, that do not let you fall asleep.
As kids we were often asked, “What do you want to become when you grow up?” Does that ring a bell to those wonderful childhood days and memories? Yes, it should.
I used to struggle a lot answering this question back in those days, to be truthful even now as a grown-up, independent lady, I still don’t know what’s the correct answer for that question. But, Let’s just go back as kids, we used to answer that specific, with great excitement, zeal, and a big smile on our faces. Some would say “Doctor, Engineer, Pilot, Musician, Fashion Designer, Miss World, Miss India, CEO, and what not……. the list is never-ending.
But things changed as we grew up, we forgot what we said in the first place and let’s face the truth the elder we grew the more it started looking impossible or unrealistic. Do we know the reason, why? The simplest answer to that question is “Fear and lack of confidence”.
But why?
This answer is also a simple one, It is because of the fear of not completing your homework, fear of not being able to outsmart others in your science project, fear of getting lower grades in a maths paper, fear of not being able to speak fluent English, fear of getting compared with your elder/younger sibling or a topper cousin, fear of failing in finals and not getting promoted, fear of getting beaten up by parents, bullied by friends and punished by teachers. I can go on and on and on…….but this sentence will never end.
We (then) never even got the chance to stop for once, sit back, calm our heads and think; is this what we want, is their peace in what I am doing or is it all just mechanical (a way to avoid scoldings and punishments), then speak about it to our parents. We were just far too afraid, just by the thought of it, even now, when we are all grown-ups we can feel that. But the truth is, it’s not about the fact that we never thought about it, we did, we all did and it felt like that would be sublime peace if we could fulfill what we dreamt of. The only thing we did not do was talk about it to our family members; as we were scared, neither of losing nor of failure but to carry the burden of repercussions of that failure forever in the form of “What society will say if we fail.”
Imagine for a second, what if J K Rowling had given up the script of “Harry Potter” as she failed 12 times; do you think we all could even have imagined Magic and a Wizarding World, in the most Magically way as it is depicted in Harry Potter series.
OR What if Abraham Lincoln did not stand for the elections for the 9th time after going through Business loss twice followed by a nervous breakdown, would America even, have had got such a Brilliant, Kind and Caring President ever in the history of time.
OR What if Steve Jobs never started Apple in his garage, will any of us, even be capable of imagining such a world-class, high-end technology in such a compact size.
Do you see what is common in all those names mentioned and also in millions of others that are not. Lemme help you, it’s the fact that they never gave up. I know what’s the thought running in your head, that, the time has passed, we had our entire life ahead then; now priorities have changed, commitments have changed, we can’t get emotional, so to be practical, as time does not run backward there is no point in dreaming unrealistic things.
TRUE, absolutely correct.
Now the inevitable question is: So, what’s the point? There still is one thing we all are failing to address. There is no correct or wrong time to;
Make a new beginning. It never too late to Start.
If Colonel Sanders can start KFC at the age of 67 years which is worth US$23 Billion ( in 2013). Do you really think you won’t be able to do it? All the great people, were not great when they started, they became so; just because of their UNDYING PERSISTENCE.
That is the whole point about success:
You don’t have to start great,
You just have to START, to become GREAT.
